Three-Dimensional Journey, 2025
Part 2: Experimental Film + Art Performance – Concept and Making
Apr 4, 2025 – July 7, 2025
This experimental short film is an extension of the website project, transforming the third-person perspective into a first-person experience to create resonance and awakening.
Rather than allowing the audience to escape from reality through cinematic storytelling, it creates a two-dimensional space where the film can communicate with the audience, and the audience can communicate with their inner selves.
The three themes respond to the website’s concepts of Healing, Wish, and Peace. As well as Buddhism, Taoism, mysticism, and hidden truths.
During the screening of the short film, viewers can scan the QR code at any time to enter the website.
The short film is divided into three parts.
The film uses more direct language and actions to express the ideas that the entire project has been exploring.
Dream and Reality
For Chinese audiences, butterflies evoke Zhuang Zhou’s Butterfly Dream; in Western spirituality, butterflies symbolize rebirth and transformation.
Zhuang Zhou’s Butterfly Dream also resonates with Buddhist philosophy.
In my interpretation, what we see while living is merely illusion; living itself is a dream, and death is the awakening from it.
Zhuang Zhou questioned whether he was a butterfly or a human being.
I believe he is both.
In “Dream and Reality,” I want to express that becoming whoever you wish to be does not require literal physical death and rebirth.
Since there may be no next life, every day in this life is an opportunity to choose again.
Waking life and dreams are similar — one appears continuous, while the other does not.
That is why people fear choice and change in reality, because they fear unknown consequences.
But in dreams, choices carry no fear, because we are not afraid of unknown outcomes there.
In truth, living is simply a much longer dream.
Fear and refusing change do not guarantee safety, nor do they prevent the dream from eventually ending.
So what if awakening happens while still alive?
Not awakening through death, but awakening during life itself.
That would be something truly beautiful.
Because every day, we can realize that we are inside the dream, and live freely without fear, choosing how we truly want to exist.
2. 真理 Truth
Reality is this: “The truth is that there is no absolute truth.”
Whatever genuinely serves oneself becomes truth.
But it must be guided by joy.
Before death, what people truly remember are the people and moments connected to their joy.
And the version of themselves that lived fully and vividly.
Wish
The moment a wish is made, it has already come true.
And precisely because it is already fulfilled internally, we begin taking action toward it in the present moment.
